−20%When Giuseppe Ponte established the Gorzano cellar in San Damiano d'Asti in 1968, the family's philosophy was already fixed: prioritise varietal authenticity and accessible pricing without compromising appellation integrity. The Spumante Brut 68 — its name anchoring it to that founding year — is a 100% Glera produced under the Prosecco DOC framework, vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel to lock in the grape's inherent white-peach and acacia aromatics rather than layering on secondary fermentation complexity.
San Damiano d'Asti sits between Asti and Alba on the chalky soils that define this corridor of Piedmont, a terrain that lends a flinty undercurrent to what might otherwise read as purely fruit-driven. The estate's deliberate avoidance of oak at any stage — consistent across their entire white and sparkling range — keeps the palate lean and the mousse precise. Fermentation in stainless steel preserves CO₂ integration at low temperatures, producing a fine, persistent bead without the bready autolytic character of traditional-method wines.
What distinguishes this expression within its category is its Piedmontese provenance: Glera grown and vinified in Asti Province rather than the Treviso heartland, giving the wine a structural dryness that sits at the firmer end of the Brut spectrum. As a non-vintage release, it is built for immediate consumption and consistent house style across harvests.
