Champagne Coessens Largillier Brut Nature

−7%When Jérôme Coessens established his domaine in 2006, he made a decision almost without precedent in Champagne: every bottle would come from a single 3.36-hectare lieu-dit, a single cépage, and a single vintage — no reserve-wine blending, no multi-vineyard assemblage. That Burgundian logic is the structural foundation of the Largillier Brut Nature.
The vineyard sits on a south-east-facing slope above Ville-sur-Arce in the Côte des Bar (Aube), over Kimmeridgian Marl No. 2 — alternating clay and chalk/limestone layers confirmed by 2011 excavations to be geologically identical to the Grand Cru sites of Chablis. The clay fraction drives body and grip unusual for Champagne; the chalk delivers the long mineral finish.
Base wines are fermented in stainless steel to preserve the raw terroir signal. The Brut Nature receives zero dosage (0 g/L), placing the entire expressive burden on the Kimmeridgian soil and the 35–42-year-old Pinot Noir vines — no sugar correction, no masking of vintage character.
What no peer does: a true monopole, zero-dosage, single-vintage Blanc de Noirs from a Chablis-mirroring marl in the Aube — a category of one within Champagne AOC.
The NV designation reflects Coessens' single-vintage philosophy rather than blending; expect the clay-driven weight and chalk-cut minerality to reward 2–5 additional years of cellaring.
