Louis Roederer Rose Vintage 2016
฿4,200
Chef de Cave Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon made a deliberate structural choice with the Rosé Vintage: blocking malolactic fermentation on roughly 20% of the blend — the oak-aged portion — to lock in the acidity architecture that chalk soils generate and that most rosé Champagne producers sacrifice for early approachability. The fruit comes entirely from Roederer's own 240 hectares of Grand and Premier Cru parcels, each vinified separately in small stainless-steel tanks or oak vats sized to one or two hectares, preserving individual plot character before blending. Soils at the Montagne de Reims Pinot Noir sites — Verzenay and Verzy — are defined by 20 cm of shallow chalk topsoil over pure chalk bedrock, mid-slope drainage eliminating excess moisture and concentrating dry extract. The blend runs approximately 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay, with colour extracted via the saignée method rather than red-wine addition, giving structural grip alongside the pink hue. After secondary fermentation, the wine ages a minimum of four years on lees plus six months post-disgorgement — extended contact that builds autolytic complexity without erasing site character. The special feature: among large Champagne maisons, sourcing 100% of vintage cuvée fruit from estate vineyards is essentially unique, giving this rosé grower-level terroir specificity at négociant scale. The 2016 vintage delivered excellent natural acidity and fruit concentration; drink from now through 2030+.
