“20 Aldeas” Ribera Del Duero D.O. - Organic
฿฿
Condado de Haza was established in 1987 by Alejandro Fernández — the same visionary behind Pesquera — as a dedicated estate project on Ribera del Duero's western plateau, where the winery draws exclusively from its own vineyards rather than purchased fruit. The name 20 Aldeas references the twenty villages whose surrounding parcels contribute to this blend, a deliberate aggregation of micro-sites that smooths vintage variation while preserving the plateau's signature intensity.
Those parcels sit at elevations approaching 900 metres on the Castilian meseta, where thin topsoils of limestone-rich clay over gravel force Tempranillo roots deep and concentrate phenolics. The extreme continental climate — scorching summers and cold nights — preserves natural acidity while accelerating anthocyanin development, producing deep colour without sacrificing freshness.
Certified organic viticulture governs the entire estate, with no synthetic herbicides or pesticides. The wine is vinified to emphasise primary fruit character, with minimal or no new oak intervention, allowing the Tempranillo's dark berry and dried herb profile to speak directly. This unoaked or lightly oaked approach is the deliberate counterpoint to the heavily wooded Ribera style dominant at this price tier. Drink now through 2027 for maximum fruit expression.
