Domaine Georges Noellat
Maxime Cheurlin Noellat Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "les Feusselottes"
฿14,800
From 1990 to 2010, every grape grown on this domaine was sold in bulk to Jadot and Drouhin — meaning Maxime Cheurlin, then just 20 years old and a blood relative of the Jayer family, built the entire estate reputation from a standing start with his very first vintage. Les Feusselottes sits on the eastern flank of Chambolle-Musigny, where the classic Côte de Nuits argilo-calcaire (clay-limestone) subsoil delivers the limestone's drainage and aromatic lift against clay's structural concentration — conditions that in Chambolle tend toward florality and translucency rather than the darker muscle of Vosne. Cheurlin's cellar approach is deliberately counter-extractive: 100% destemmed, native-yeast fermentation, rare and gentle punch-downs, and an 'infusion' philosophy that prioritises texture over grip. French oak aging runs 14–20 months with new oak calibrated well below Grand Cru levels for a Premier Cru, preserving site transparency. The domaine's signature technical transgression — active cellar cooling to delay and slow malolactic fermentation, adopted from around 2017 — adds a precision and tensile acidity that peers in the Côte de Nuits rarely pursue. The 2021 vintage, frost-reduced in volume, produced focused, precise fruit with the characteristic Noëllat delicacy amplified by the year's natural austerity; drink from 2026 onward.
