Etna Rosso DOC
฿฿
I Vigneri's Etna Rosso originates from vineyards on the north-facing slopes of Mount Etna, Sicily's active volcano, where Nerello Mascalese vines root into mineral-rich, iron-oxide-stained volcanic soils at 700+ meters elevation. The cool microclimate—driven by altitude and Tyrrhenian Sea influence—extends ripening into late autumn, concentrating acidity and phenolic structure.
Whole bunches ferment in concrete vessels, a technique that preserves the grape's native tannin architecture while allowing carbonic maceration to soften extraction. The wine ages in large neutral oak, permitting slow oxidative development without oak-derived flavor overlay. This restraint honors the terroir's mineral signature rather than masking it.
The special feature lies in I Vigneri's commitment to minimal intervention—no temperature control during fermentation, no fining or filtration—allowing volcanic minerality and the variety's natural red-fruit profile to emerge unmediated. The result is a wine that reads as a geological document: iron, pumice dust, and high-toned red cherry define the palate more than oak or extraction.
Drink 2024–2032 for optimal freshness and acid-driven expression.
