Yalumba Samuel's Collection Barossa Bush Vine Grenache
฿1,200
Samuel Smith founded Yalumba in 1849, and the bush-vine Grenache in the Samuel's Collection range draws on the same Barossa floor tradition his estate helped establish — dry-grown vines demanding nothing from irrigation, concentrating everything into the berry. The Barossa Valley floor sits at low elevation on warm, alluvial clay-loam soils that retain just enough moisture through the dry season to keep ungrafted, unirrigated bush vines alive — the stress producing small, thick-skinned berries with pronounced fruit density and natural phenolic grip. Wild/spontaneous fermentation is initiated in open-top fermenters, consistent with Yalumba's house philosophy across its premium red range, preserving site character rather than imposing cultured-yeast uniformity. Oak treatment at this tier is measured, allowing the Grenache's inherent red-fruit and ironstone-earth character to lead. All Yalumba wines have been 100% vegan since the 2012 vintage, with no animal-derived fining agents — a production commitment rarely stated this clearly at this price point. What separates this expression is its direct lineage to the Barossa's oldest vine heritage: the same floor terroir that feeds the Tri-Centenary block (planted 1889) informs the bush-vine philosophy here. Drink now through near-term cellaring; the low-yield bush-vine concentration rewards a short rest.
