Tenuta Guado al Tasso By Antinori COn't Ugo Bolgheri DOC
฿฿
Tenuta Guado al Tasso, Antinori's 300-hectare coastal estate acquired in the 1980s, sits within the Bolgheri DOC where the Tyrrhenian Sea moderates temperatures and marine breezes temper the Tuscan summer heat. The estate's name — ford of the badger — references the creek crossing at the heart of the property, where alluvial soils of sandy loam over gravel and marine sediment drain freely and stress the vine roots toward concentration. Con't Ugo is the estate's Bolgheri DOC Bianco, built primarily on Vermentino, the variety best adapted to the estate's coastal microclimate, where saline air and diurnal temperature swings preserve natural acidity through a long growing season. Fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature locks aromatic freshness without oxidative softening, and the wine sees no oak aging — a deliberate choice to let the mineral character of the site speak without wood interference. Within the Bolgheri white category, a Vermentino-dominant blend from a red-wine-famous estate is a genuine outlier: most peers chase Verdicchio or international varieties. The wine is intended for early drinking, best within two to three years of vintage, when its citrus pith, white peach, and iodine-edged salinity are at their most vivid.
