Chateau Lynch Bages
Echo de Lynch Bages AOC Pauillac 2010
฿5,249
Thomas Lynch's 1749 estate on the Bages plateau has spent three centuries confounding its 1855 Fifth Growth classification — a rank the Cazes family, owners since 1939, has systematically rendered irrelevant through sustained investment. Echo de Lynch Bages is the second label, drawing from the same deep Garonne gravel over limestone sub-strata that defines the plateau's signature free-draining terroir, with the Gironde estuary moderating temperatures and the Landes forest blocking Atlantic extremes. That gravel depth accelerates heat retention and root penetration, concentrating phenolics without sacrificing freshness. Vinification proceeds parcel-by-parcel in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, with malolactic split between vat and barrel; aging runs in French oak barriques, approximately 75% new, for 15–18 months — the same regime as the grand vin, scaled to the selection rate. The 2010 growing season delivered exceptional phenolic maturity across the Médoc, producing firm, architecturally precise tannins and concentrated dark fruit that have knit together over a decade-plus of bottle age. What distinguishes Echo here is the access point: grand-vin winemaking philosophy — massal-selected vines, parcel precision, high new-oak proportion — applied to a second-label price. The 2010 is now entering a generous drinking window, with cassis, graphite, and cedar fully integrated; drink through 2030.
