Joseph Drouhin Gevrey Chambertin
฿4,599
Founded in 1880 and now stewarded by the fourth-generation Drouhin family, Maison Joseph Drouhin completed a full organic and biodynamic conversion across its 100-hectare Burgundy estate under Philippe Drouhin — earning ECOCERT certification for the 2009 vintage, an extraordinary undertaking for a négociant-domaine of this scale. Gevrey-Chambertin sits on the northern Côte de Nuits, where Jurassic limestone bedrock is capped by iron-rich clay-limestone soils; the combination of cool northern aspect and well-drained subsoil produces Pinot Noir of pronounced structure and dark-fruited depth rather than the silkier profiles found further south in Chambolle or Vosne.
Winemaker Véronique Boss-Drouhin vinifies the village cuvée with complete destemming, 2–3 weeks maceration in open vats with pigeage and pumping-over, and indigenous yeasts exclusively. Élevage runs 12–18 months in 228L French high-forest oak barriques at 15–25% new wood, seasoned approximately three years before coopering — a deliberate restraint that keeps terroir legible. The vineyards are horse-ploughed with cover crops between rows, a biodynamic commitment rare at village-appellation scale. The 2013 vintage delivered cool-season precision: firm acidity, taut red fruit, and a structural backbone that rewards patience; the wine is now entering its drinking window but will continue to develop through 2028.
