Tomintoul Cigar Malt (700 ml)
฿8,000
When Angus Dundee acquired Tomintoul in 2000, the distillery had spent 35 years as near-invisible blending stock — a 3.3-million-litre-per-year operation that almost no one drank as a single malt. The Cigar Malt is one of the deliberate identity statements that followed, engineered around the house's core technical signature rather than against it. Water drawn from the Ballantruan Spring in the Cromdale Hills — exceptionally soft and pure — feeds a production process built on high-reflux stills and fermentations of 54–60 hours, yielding a new make collected at approximately 69% ABV: clean, cereal-light, and malt-sweet. Primary maturation proceeds in American white oak ex-Bourbon casks, the dominant vessel across the Tomintoul range, which layers vanilla and dried orchard fruit over that delicate base without overwhelming it. The distillery sits at 345 m altitude near Ballindalloch, Banffshire, within the Cairngorms National Park — the cool, damp warehouse environment slows extraction and preserves the spirit's characteristic lightness through maturation. What makes the Cigar Malt unusual is its conceptual inversion: rather than a peated whisky positioned alongside tobacco, it is an unpeated malt deliberately profiled — through oak sweetness and malt richness — to complement cigar smoke rather than mirror it. Drinking well now, with the structure to hold over the medium term.
