Royal Salute was born on 2 June 1953, created by Chivas Brothers to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II — a founding purpose that locked in an uncompromising standard: no component whisky, grain or malt, may enter the blend younger than 21 years. That floor is not a marketing claim but a structural commitment that most luxury single malts do not match even at their entry tier.

The blend is married at the Royal Salute Vault, a dedicated bonded warehouse within Strathisla Distillery, Keith, Moray — the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Scottish Highlands (est. 1786), drawing process water from the Fons Bulliens Well, a peat-free natural spring prized for its softness. Speyside's mild, humid valley microclimate around the River Isla promotes slow, even oak extraction across the two-decade-plus maturation.

The whisky rests in a combination of ex-bourbon American oak and ex-sherry casks, the interplay building the house signature of ripe pear, citrus peel, dried fruit, and vanilla cream over a gently spiced finish. Strathisla's short, squat pot stills (wash stills 12,500 L; spirit stills 8,500 L) encourage copper contact and a characteristically rich, fruity new-make that sustains two decades of wood influence without drying out.

The Richard Quinn Roses Edition II is presented in a hand-crafted porcelain flagon — produced from Cornish clay with double-layer glazing over up to six days — making the vessel itself a collectible object distinct from any other age-statement Scotch at this price point. Drink now or hold; the 21-year floor means the whisky enters the bottle already fully integrated.
