Lars Olsson Smith distilled his first Absolut Rent Brännvin in 1879, and the conviction behind that name — absolute purity through distillation precision alone — is still the technical argument Absolut makes today. Every ingredient originates within the Åhus community in Skåne, southern Sweden: approximately 400 farms supply 100% Swedish winter wheat (Triticum aestivum), and water is drawn from on-site aquifer wells sunk more than 140 metres through Swedish bedrock, yielding a mineral-neutral base that lets the cereal speak. Skåne's flat coastal plain and fertile soils produce wheat at roughly twice the global average yield per hectare — density that translates directly into a fuller mash. The wash ferments to 9–10% ABV in approximately 48 hours using a proprietary cultivated yeast, then passes through a continuous multi-column still system: a mash column, a rectification column with copper-packet packing for sulphur removal, an extraction column for aldehyde stripping, and twin 26-metre rectification columns (split to comply with local airport height restrictions) refining to ~96% ABV. The defining transgression: no charcoal or chemical filtration is applied — a deliberate choice that preserves the wheat's natural grain texture that most large-volume vodkas deliberately erase. Absolut Raspberri layers natural raspberry flavouring onto this base at 40% ABV, with no added sugar or glycerin.
