Absolut Vodka (700 ml)

When Lars Olsson Smith distilled his first Absolut Rent Brännvin in 1879, he was already arguing that rectification precision made post-distillation intervention unnecessary — a position the modern distillery at Åhus still holds, making it one of the very few large-volume spirits to bottle without charcoal or chemical filtration. Every bottle originates from a single postcode: Destilleriet i Åhus, on the flat coastal plain of Skåne, where the Baltic Sea moderates temperature and the fertile soils yield winter wheat at roughly twice the global average per hectare. Water is drawn from on-site wells more than 140 metres deep, filtered through Swedish bedrock over millennia, then treated by reverse osmosis before dilution — contributing a notably soft, mineral-neutral mouthfeel. The production sequence runs through a multi-column continuous still system: a mash column strips to ~35% ABV; a rectification column with copper-packet packing catalyses sulphur removal to ~85% ABV; an extraction column eliminates aldehydes; twin 26-metre rectification columns (split to comply with local airport height restrictions) refine to ~96% ABV. No sugar, glycerin, or additives are introduced at any stage. The result is a vodka whose faint cereal sweetness and soft grain texture are not incidental — they are the deliberate residue of a distillation philosophy that trusts column precision over filtration. Bottled at 40% ABV; no vintage variation applies.
