Don Julio 1942 (1.75 L)
฿21,999
When Don Julio González began barrel-aging tequila in the highlands of Jalisco, virtually no other Mexican producer was doing so — a deliberate transgression that effectively invented the luxury sipping tequila category. The 1942 expression, named for the year he founded Distillery La Primavera in Atotonilco El Alto, is the house's most technically intensive release. Blue Weber agave grown in iron-rich volcanic red clay at roughly 5,200–6,500 ft elevation matures over 7–15 years before hand-harvest by multi-generational jimador families; the highland microclimate of warm days and cool nights concentrates the piña's natural sugars and amplifies the fruity, floral agave character that separates Los Altos tequila from lowland valley production. Harvested piñas are slow-cooked in traditional masonry hornos, then triple-distilled — the third pass conducted in a small-batch stainless steel pot still capped at three-barrel capacity — before a minimum 30 months of aging in recharred American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, well beyond the CRT's 12-month añejo threshold. The triple distillation is the category-breaking signature: no standard añejo in the Don Julio lineup receives this treatment, and few peers at any price point apply a third pass to tequila. Bottled at 40% ABV, the 1942 is non-vintage by nature; the 1.75 L format delivers the same small-batch liquid in a format suited to extended table service.
