When John Paul DeJoria and Martin Crowley launched Patrón in 1989, 100% agave tequila at luxury price points did not exist as a commercial category — the spirit was a shot with salt and lime. Their founding Master Distiller Francisco Alcaraz selected Atotonilco El Alto specifically for its contaminant-free water supply and the highland microclimate's effect on Blue Weber Agave: at Los Altos elevation, the piñas develop measurably higher sugar content and a fruitier aromatic profile than lowland agave.

El Cielo Silver is built on Hacienda Patrón's signature dual-crush architecture: piñas slow-baked for exactly 79 hours in small clay brick ovens, then crushed by both a two-ton volcanic tahona wheel and a modern roller mill. The two resulting juices ferment separately in open pinewood tanks for a minimum of 72 hours using proprietary yeast, then each fraction is double-distilled in small copper pot stills — six tall narrow stills for the first pass, five shorter rounder stills for the second — before blending. No column stills, no additives, no added sugars.

What distinguishes El Cielo within the Patrón Silver family is a four-column activated-charcoal filtration step applied post-distillation, a process no other expression in the range undergoes, which strips residual color and sharpens the agave's citrus and floral register without sacrificing the earthy textural contribution of the tahona fraction. Unaged and bottled at 40% ABV, it drinks with the structural clarity of a blanco and the layered depth of a craft-distilled spirit.
