Norman 'Sailor Jerry' Collins, the Honolulu tattooist who fused American and Japanese ink traditions, lent his name and philosophy to this rum: take something traditional and push it harder. The spirit is distilled in the Caribbean — specifically blended from column-still rums sourced from the region — then shipped to the United States for blending and bottling. The base rums are aged in American oak, contributing the pronounced vanilla and caramel character that defines the profile, before a proprietary spice blend is introduced. At 46% ABV — notably higher than the category standard of 35–40% — Sailor Jerry deliberately preserves spice intensity and prevents the sweetness from becoming cloying. The elevated proof is the single most deliberate production choice: it keeps the botanical additions in tension rather than letting sugar dominate.
