Caffo Distilleria, established 1845 in Messina, Calabria, built its reputation on amari and aperitivi drawing from the Strait of Messina's botanical abundance. Mezzodi' represents the house style: a bittersweet aperitivo liqueur constructed on a neutral spirit base infused with a proprietary blend of Mediterranean herbs, citrus peel, and roots sourced from Calabrian suppliers.

The production method employs maceration of botanicals in neutral spirit, followed by blending with a light sugar syrup to achieve balance between herbal bite and approachability. The final spirit carries no age statement, indicating a focus on fresh botanical character rather than wood maturation. Bottled at standard aperitivo strength, Mezzodi' sits in the aperitivo category—less intensely bitter than a full amaro, more structured than a simple herbal liqueur.

The special character lies in its Sicilian-Calabrian terroir expression: the formula privileges local citrus (bergamot, bitter orange) and wild herbs from the Aspromonte foothills, giving the liqueur a distinctly regional profile rather than the pan-Italian blends common in mass-market competitors.
