Beefeater 24 was developed by Master Distiller Desmond Payne — one of the longest-serving in the industry — who added Japanese Sencha and Chinese green tea to the house's original 1876 botanical bill specifically to introduce a silkier, more aromatic dimension unavailable from juniper and citrus peel alone.

Produced at the Kennington distillery in South London, the spirit draws on London's soft municipal water, which carries minimal mineral interference and allows the botanical maceration to express cleanly. The city's urban distilling heritage, unbroken since the 19th century, shapes the regulatory and craft context for every batch.

All 12 botanicals — including Seville orange peel, grapefruit peel, juniper, angelica root, coriander seed, and both tea varieties — macerate together for a full 24 hours in grain neutral spirit before a single copper-pot distillation run. No chill-filtration is applied post-distillation. Bottled at 45% ABV, which preserves aromatic intensity above the standard London Dry threshold.

The dual-tea addition is the defining departure: no other expression in the Beefeater range uses green tea, making 24 a structurally distinct gin rather than a line extension.
