Montecristo Open Junior (Aluminum Tube)
฿1,500
When Alonso Menéndez launched Montecristo in 1935 at Havana's Particulares Factory, the brand was built on a single premise: consistency at scale. The Open Junior is the format that carries that mandate furthest — a machine-made cigarillo designed to deliver the house profile in under fifteen minutes without sacrificing the D.O.P. Cuban tobacco credential.
Tobacco originates from Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Río — Cuba's red clay (colorado) soil belt, where ocean breezes moderate a tropical microclimate and produce leaves of mineral complexity that no other growing zone replicates. That terroir is the Open line's primary claim to legitimacy within the broader Montecristo portfolio.
Unlike the handmade core line rolled Totalmente a Mano by torcedores at the H. Upmann factory, the Open Junior is machine-made, using short-filler construction and a homogenized binder — a deliberate departure from the entubado long-filler technique that defines the No. 2 or No. 4. The aluminum tube provides hermetic protection against humidity fluctuation, critical in tropical retail environments. The cigar is triple-capped and presented uncut.
What sets the Open Junior apart within the Montecristo range is precisely this transgression: it is the only format in the portfolio that abandons handmade construction entirely, trading artisan complexity for format convenience while retaining the Habanos D.O.P. designation. Expect the house signature of cedar, cocoa, and mild earth — compressed into a shorter, lighter register than the full handmade line.
