Garofoli Supera Verdicchio Di Matelica
฿899
Garofoli's Supera originates from Matelica, a subregion of Marche in central Italy where limestone-rich soils and higher elevation (350–500m) create conditions that sharpen acidity and mineral expression in Verdicchio. The vineyard sits on calcareous clay with significant chalk deposits, aspects facing north and northeast that slow ripening and preserve freshness.
Production technique: Verdicchio grapes are harvested at optimal phenolic ripeness, destemmed, and fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperature. The wine remains on its lees for several months, building textural complexity without oak influence. This steel-and-lees regimen is Matelica's signature—it allows the limestone minerality to dominate rather than mask it with wood.
The Supera designation marks Garofoli's reserve expression: a wine built for structure and aging potential rather than immediate consumption. Verdicchio from this terroir develops a distinctive saline, almost oyster-shell salinity that deepens with 3–5 years in bottle.
Drinking window: 2024–2029. Best served at 8–10°C to preserve aromatic precision.
