Louis Latour Macon-Lugny Les Genievres
฿1,900
Jean Latour's family had been growing vines since 1731, but it was the house's négociant reach — spanning every major Burgundy appellation — that made Louis Latour the largest single Grand Cru owner in the Côte d'Or. Mâcon-Lugny Les Génièvres sits at the southern end of that network, drawing fruit from the limestone-clay soils of the Lugny plateau in the Mâconnais, where the continental climate and moderate elevation produce Chardonnay with naturally higher acidity and leaner fruit weight than the Côte de Beaune. Vinification follows the house's white Burgundy protocol: grapes are crushed before pressing, fermentation initiated in stainless steel, then the wine is racked and settled before bottling in December–February — a reductive, freshness-preserving approach that contrasts sharply with the 100% new-oak, barrel-fermented treatment reserved for Corton-Charlemagne. From the 2022 vintage onward, the wine is sealed under Diam 30 closure, a house-wide shift that eliminates cork taint risk across the entire range. What distinguishes this expression within its Mâconnais peer group is its provenance within a négociant system that air-dries its own French oak staves for up to 36 months in-house — discipline that filters down in philosophy even where oak is absent. No vintage-specific critic scores are available for this cuvée in the brand library.
