Napa Valley Chardonnay
฿฿฿
Alpha & Omega was founded in 2006 by Robin and Michelle Baggett with a deliberate sourcing philosophy: rather than owning a single estate, the winery contracts fruit from distinct Napa Valley sub-appellations, allowing vintage-by-vintage selection of the best-performing blocks. For this Chardonnay, that means privileged access to cooler-climate fruit where marine influence from the Petaluma Gap and San Pablo Bay moderates afternoon heat, slowing ripening and preserving natural acidity in the finished wine.
The grapes are barrel-fermented in French oak, with the winery employing partial malolactic fermentation — a deliberate choice to retain a portion of malic acidity alongside the creamier lactic texture, preventing the wine from tipping into the flabby, over-oaked style that dominated Napa Chardonnay for decades. Extended lees contact during aging builds mid-palate weight and a subtle brioche character without relying on heavy oak extraction.
What separates this expression from peers at the price point is the multi-site blending strategy: no single vineyard dominates, giving the winemaking team compositional flexibility unavailable to estate-only producers. The result is a Napa Chardonnay that leans toward Burgundian tension rather than California opulence — drink now through 3–4 years from vintage.
