Santa Cristina by Antinori Orvieto Classico "Campogrande" DOC
฿
Campogrande sits in the heart of Orvieto Classico's volcanic plateau, where Pliocene tufa and limestone soils drain rapidly at 300–350 metres elevation. The site's cool nights and morning mists moderate ripening, preserving acidity in the region's traditional blend.
Antinori's expression rests on Trebbiano Toscano, Verddicchio, and Malvasia—the classic Orvieto triumvirate. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel at controlled temperature, with the wine spending several months on fine lees before bottling, building textural weight without oak intervention. This restraint is deliberate: the house prioritizes mineral expression over oak spice.
The special signature here is age-worthiness uncommon in Orvieto. Most Classicos drink young; Campogrande's tufa minerality and lees contact create a wine that develops complexity over 3–5 years, gaining honeyed undertones and deeper stone-fruit character without losing freshness.
Drink 2024–2028.
