A Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux-style blend (recent vintages around 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot) sourced from Robert Mondavi Winery's own estate blocks in Oakville that the winery markets under the To Kalon Vineyard name, aged around 21 months in French oak (100% first-use in recent vintages). The style is full-bodied and opulent, with dark fruit (blackberry, cassis, black plum), violet, tobacco and licorice notes and silky, well-integrated tannins.

To Kalon is one of Napa Valley's most storied vineyards, developed from 1868 by Hamilton Walker Crabb (who began planting wine grapes there in the early-to-mid 1870s and named it 'To Kalon' in 1886); it is not a single-owner estate today — the historic footprint is split among several producers including Robert Mondavi Winery, Opus One, Andy Beckstoffer, and others, and Constellation Brands (Mondavi's owner) has been in legal disputes, including with Beckstoffer, over exclusive rights to the 'To Kalon' name. Robert Mondavi Winery's own holding — commonly cited around 328 acres — is a meaningful caveat, not a footnote: per Wine Spectator's reporting, that acreage descends from the 'Stelling Extension,' land that was never part of Crabb's original 19th-century To Kalon parcel, though Mondavi has long marketed it as To Kalon. So this bottling is estate fruit from Robert Mondavi Winery's own vineyard blocks, but buyers should understand its historical connection to Crabb's original To Kalon is contested, not settled fact.
