Klein Constantia Estate Red
฿1,300
Dating back to 1685, Klein Constantia is one of the world's most historic wine estates, situated on the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg with commanding views across False Bay. Originally established by Governor Simon van der Stel, the estate became legendary in the 18th and 19th centuries for its Constantia wines, which were celebrated by historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte and Jane Austen. Following a period of decline, the estate was revived in 1980 by the Jooste family, who restored its global reputation for excellence. Today, it remains a benchmark for South African fine wine, blending centuries of heritage with a modern commitment to precision and quality.
The estate’s unique terroir is defined by its cool maritime climate and ancient decomposed granite soils, which provide ideal conditions for slow ripening and natural acidity. The vineyards benefit from cooling ocean breezes and the afternoon shadows of the mountains, which help preserve vibrant fruit aromatics. Klein Constantia’s winemaking philosophy emphasizes restraint and minimal intervention, guided by a deep respect for biodiversity and sustainability. By integrating organic and biodynamic practices with precision farming, the winemaking team crafts elegant, structured wines like the Estate Red that reflect the singular character and longevity of this historic Cape site.
