"Bella Union" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Bella Union was launched by Far Niente — the Oakville estate founded in 1885 and revived in 1979 — as a deliberate vehicle for sourcing across Napa Valley's most prized sub-appellations rather than confining itself to a single estate block. The name revives a Gold Rush-era San Francisco saloon, anchoring the label's California heritage in something older than the modern wine industry itself.

Fruit is drawn from Rutherford, Oakville, and St. Helena, where benchland alluvial soils — gravel and loam over clay subsoil — moderate vine vigor and concentrate berry size, while the valley's diurnal temperature swings preserve natural acidity through a long growing season. Rutherford's famous dust-dry gravels contribute the firm mid-palate structure the blend is built around.

The wine is aged in French oak barriques, with a portion of new oak to add frame without overwhelming the fruit. Winemaking follows Far Niente's house philosophy of extended maceration for tannin integration before barrel transfer. Malolactic fermentation is completed to soften the natural malic edge of cooler-season fruit.
