Reserva.
Beronia's Rioja Alavesa Reserva originates from the cooler, northern subregion of Rioja—a zone defined by Atlantic maritime influence and clay-limestone soils with high silica content. The vineyard sites sit at 500–600 meters elevation on north-facing slopes that moderate ripening and preserve acidity.
The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak (24 months minimum), with a portion aged in new wood to introduce vanilla and spice complexity while maintaining the region's characteristic mineral spine. The blend centers on Tempranillo with traditional Rioja proportions of Graciano and Mazuelo, varieties that thrive in Alavesa's cooler terroir.
Beronia's house style emphasizes structured tannin and food-driven acidity over fruit-forward extraction—a deliberate counter to modern Rioja trends. The 2019 vintage (or current release) shows the signature Alavesa profile: red-cherry aromatics anchored by slate minerality and white-pepper spice from the Graciano component.
Drinking window: 2024–2032. Peak maturity arrives around 2026–2027 as secondary oak notes integrate.
