Joseph Drouhin Beaujolais Villages Nouveau 2017
฿1,880
Founded in 1880 and now stewarded by the fourth generation of the Drouhin family, Maison Joseph Drouhin applies the same finesse-over-power philosophy that governs its Grand Cru Pinot Noirs to this Beaujolais Villages Nouveau — a deliberate statement that house palate does not change with appellation tier. Beaujolais Villages draws from the granite and schist-dominant soils of the northern Beaujolais hills, where shallow topsoil and poor water retention force Gamay roots deep, concentrating aromatic intensity while preserving the bright natural acidity that defines the appellation. Vinification follows the carbonic maceration method standard to Nouveau production, preserving primary fruit character and keeping tannin extraction minimal; the wine is released within weeks of harvest under the Nouveau designation. Drouhin's négociant sourcing model allows selection across multiple grower parcels within the Villages appellation, giving the house blending latitude unavailable to single-domaine producers. What sets this cuvée apart is the application of a house committed to organic and biodynamic farming across its 100-hectare Burgundy estate to grower selection standards — a sourcing discipline rarely exercised at the Nouveau tier. The 2017 vintage is not covered by the brand library's vintage notes; as a Nouveau, it is intended for immediate consumption upon release.
