Yalumba Organic Shiraz

−10%Founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith and still held by the Hill-Smith family six generations later, Yalumba has built its identity around viticultural precision and winemaking restraint — commitments that extend to this certified organic Shiraz from Clare Valley. Clare Valley sits at elevations of roughly 400–500 m in South Australia's Mid-North, where a continental climate with cool nights preserves natural acidity in Shiraz, and the region's characteristic red-brown clay-loam and limestone-influenced soils lend a savoury, iron-tinged character distinct from the warmer Barossa floor. The organic farming protocol eliminates synthetic inputs, allowing soil biology to express itself directly in the fruit. Fermentation follows Yalumba's minimal-intervention philosophy, with wild/spontaneous fermentation used to initiate the process in open-top vessels, building textural complexity without manufactured aromatic shortcuts. All Yalumba wines have been 100% vegan since the 2012 vintage, with no animal-derived fining agents used at any stage. What sets this expression apart within the Yalumba range is its organic certification applied to a cool-climate Clare Valley site — a deliberate departure from the house's Barossa-centric red wine identity. Drink now through the near term for primary fruit character, or hold briefly for further integration.
