Antinori Villa Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG
฿฿
The Antinori family has produced wine continuously since 1385, and Villa Antinori — first bottled as a single label in 1928 — was one of the earliest estate-branded Chiantis, predating the modern DOCG by decades. That long institutional memory shapes every decision here, including the deliberate choice to keep Sangiovese dominant in a blend that also incorporates small proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, a formula Antinori helped legitimize in Tuscany before it was fashionable.
The fruit is sourced from Chianti Classico's galestro and alberese soils — the former a friable schist-limestone that drains rapidly and stresses vines into concentrated, high-acid berries; the latter a dense clay-rich marl that adds mid-palate weight. Together they produce Sangiovese with the taut cherry fruit and iron-edged minerality the zone is known for.
Riserva aging requires a minimum 24 months before release; Antinori uses large Slavonian oak casks rather than small barriques, a choice that preserves Sangiovese's varietal transparency while softening tannin structure without heavy wood imprint. Malolactic fermentation is completed to round the naturally high acidity of the variety.
What separates this from single-vineyard Classicos is its deliberate blended-estate consistency — a house-style benchmark across vintages rather than a site-specific statement. Approachable on release but structured for 5–8 years of further development.
