This Craigellachie 18 Year is the direct expression of that philosophy — a single sherry butt selected by Hunter Laing's monthly tasting panel from stocks laid down at Craigellachie distillery, a Speyside operation whose worm-tub condensers produce a deliberately heavy, sulphurous new-make that demands long maturation to resolve.

Eighteen years in a sherry butt has worked that muscular spirit into layers of dried fruit, meat extract, and dark chocolate — the cask's oxidative sugars meeting Craigellachie's characteristically weighty distillate. Bottled at 50% ABV — Hunter Laing's deliberate house standard, not cask strength — the whisky retains full texture without the raw heat that pure cask-strength delivery can impose. No chill-filtration. No caramel colouring. The result is natural viscosity and an unmanipulated colour drawn entirely from the sherry wood.
