When Douglas Laing & Co. launched the Old Malt Cask range in 1998 — later transferred to Hunter Laing & Co. following the 2013 family asset split — the founding principle was cask transparency: one distillery, one cask, one unrepeatable bottling. This Auchroisk 18 Years is that principle made liquid. Auchroisk sits in the heart of Speyside, drawing from the Mulben spring and working with the region's characteristically fertile, grain-rich soils to produce a distillate known for its weight and orchard-fruit density — qualities that reward extended maturation. Hunter Laing's monthly tasting panel selected this individual cask — cask type, distillation year, and cask number are printed on the label as the true identifiers — and bottled it at exactly 50% ABV, non-chill-filtered, with zero caramel colouring added. That 50% ABV is a deliberate house standard, not a cask-strength default: it separates OMC from peers like Cadenhead's or Signatory who bottle at full natural strength, threading the needle between intensity and accessibility without sacrificing integrity. No secondary maturation or finishing is applied — the 18 years spent in a single cask is the complete story. Once this cask is exhausted, the expression cannot be replicated; the vintage and cask number on the label are the only coordinates that matter.
