This Bowmore expression sits at the entry point of Douglas Laing's three-tier single cask hierarchy (Provenance → Old Particular → XOP), yet the philosophy is identical throughout: one cask, one distillery, nothing added. Bowmore distillery occupies the western shore of Loch Indaal on Islay, where Atlantic-driven humidity and the loch's moderating influence slow maturation and sustain the coastal, briny character that distinguishes Bowmore from the more heavily peated south-shore distilleries. Maturation is in a refill hogshead — ex-bourbon, used wood only — which keeps oak extraction restrained at 10 years, allowing Bowmore's phenolic signature and sea-salt register to speak without being buried under vanilla or tannin. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered, with no added colouring, the spirit retains the natural texture and the faint coastal haze that chill-filtration would strip. The special feature here is scarcity by design: a single hogshead yields roughly 300–400 bottles, making this an unrepeatable snapshot of one Bowmore cask at one specific moment. At this age and price tier, single cask Islay malt of this transparency is genuinely uncommon.
