Clase Azul
Clase Azul Tequila Mezcal Guerrero (750 ml)
฿38,999
When Arturo Lomelí founded Clase Azul in 1997 — pricing a bottle at $100 when the category averaged $18 — he was betting that Mexican agave spirits deserved a luxury tier. The Guerrero expression extends that wager beyond tequila's DO entirely: this is mezcal, not tequila, sourced from the mountainous Pacific-coast state of Guerrero rather than Clase Azul's home terroir of Los Altos de Jalisco. The brand library confirms Clase Azul's tequila identity is anchored to red volcanic, mineral-rich highland soils at altitude in Jesús María, Arandas — conditions that yield oversized, sugar-dense piñas. Guerrero's sierra terrain is categorically different: rugged, biodiverse, and home to agave varieties that cannot legally be called Tequilana Weber Blue Agave, placing this expression outside the Tequila DO framework altogether. As a mezcal, production follows traditional small-batch mezcal protocols rather than Clase Azul's confirmed tequila process (72-hour brick-oven roasting, stainless pot stills with copper coils, triple filtration, 40% ABV). The hand-painted ceramic decanter — each requiring roughly two weeks of work by Mazahua artisans in Santa María Canchesda — remains the unifying signature across the portfolio. The special feature here is categorical transgression: Clase Azul, defined by its Jalisco Highlands tequila identity, steps into mezcal territory with a Guerrero-origin spirit that operates under entirely different agave, terroir, and regulatory rules than anything else in the core range.
