Plantation Extreme No.5 Barbados 2007 Rum (700 ml)
฿11,089
When Alexandre Gabriel's team selected this single cask from the seafront warehouse at Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery — a coral-limestone coastal site at Blackrock, St. Michael, Barbados, where Atlantic salt air permeates the ageing stacks — they were working with a distillate that had spent 15 years accumulating maritime character at tropical angel's-share rates of 6–7% per year. That attrition is not incidental: it concentrates the molasses-derived distillate far beyond what any continental cellar could achieve in equivalent time.
WIRD, founded in 1893 by George Stade, houses both pot and column stills; this Barbados expression is drawn from pot still distillation, fermented with house-cultivated yeast from the on-site nursery, and matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels through the tropical phase. The Extrême Collection No.5 release then applies Plantation's defining double-ageing protocol — a second maturation in ex-Ferrand French oak Cognac casks at Château de Bonbonnet, Ars, Charentes — before bottling at a natural cask strength of 58% ABV, non-chill-filtered.
What separates this expression from the broader Extrême No.5 set is its ABV: at 58%, it is the highest-strength release in the trio, preserving the full texture of a distillate that has lost enormous volume to the Barbados heat but none of its structural intensity. The 2007 vintage delivers the maritime-warehouse signature of WIRD in its most undiluted form.
