Kahlua Original (700 ml)
฿1,229
Kahlúa was formulated in 1936 in Veracruz, Mexico, by Pedro Domecq chemist Señor Blanco, who chose the state's high-altitude arabica coffee — grown on volcanic slopes above the Gulf coast — as the sole coffee source, a decision baked into the recipe to this day. Veracruz's volcanic soil and humid, cloud-shrouded elevation produce arabica beans with pronounced natural acidity and dark-roast depth that cheaper flatland robusta cannot replicate. The liqueur is built on a rum base distilled from Mexican sugar cane, sweetened with cane sugar, and blended with real Veracruz coffee extract and a touch of vanilla — no artificial flavoring in the core recipe. At 20% ABV, it sits lower than most spirits-forward liqueurs, which concentrates the sweetness and coffee intensity without heat. What separates Kahlúa Original from the category is that single-origin Veracruz arabica commitment: the coffee terroir is a named, traceable ingredient rather than a generic flavoring. The liqueur is shelf-stable and non-vintage, but the coffee harvest cycle means subtle lot-to-lot variation in roast character persists beneath the consistent house profile.
