Bols Curacao Dry Orange (700ml)
฿799
When the Bols family established their Amsterdam distillery in 1575, the Dutch East India Company's spice routes placed exotic citrus peels — including the sun-dried laraha peel from the island of Curaçao — directly at their door. That access to raw botanicals is the founding logic behind this expression. The Dry Orange Curaçao is produced at the Lucas Bols facility near Dam Square, where botanical esprits are distilled in copper pot stills (100–500 L, Ulrichkothe Eislingen) before being blended with neutral grain spirit and a restrained sugar solution called Eau Divine (20% ABV) — the house's standard liqueur base. What separates this expression from the brand's sweeter Triple Sec-style bottlings is the deliberate reduction of residual sugar, allowing the bitter orange peel distillate to read as a dry, aromatic spirit rather than a confectionery ingredient. The recipe traces directly to the initial 1575 flavour set, which included orange as one of the founding three botanicals alongside cumin and cardamom. At a typical liqueur-range ABV (17–24%), it functions as a structurally lighter but more aromatic alternative to high-proof orange liqueurs in classic cocktail builds. The house philosophy — Semper Idem, Always the Same — means this recipe is held to archival consistency rather than reformulated for market trends.
