Cachaca Maracatu (700 ml)
฿฿฿
Maracatu Cachaça originates in Recife, Pernambuco—Brazil's northeastern sugarcane stronghold where colonial-era engenhos (mills) still define the landscape. The name references the region's iconic Afro-Brazilian carnival tradition, a cultural anchor for this spirit's identity.
This expression is unaged cachaça, distilled from fresh sugarcane juice (garapa) rather than molasses, a distinction that preserves the vegetal and grassy character of the plant. The spirit is bottled at standard proof without oak maturation, allowing the terroir of Pernambuco's tropical climate and rich soils to remain unmediated by wood influence.
The special character of Maracatu lies in its directness: no aging, no blending complexity—only the immediate expression of fermented sugarcane from one of Brazil's oldest cane-growing regions. This transparency is intentional, favoring freshness and agricultural authenticity over the caramel and vanilla notes typical of aged cachaças.
Drink this expression young and at room temperature or slightly chilled, within 2–3 years of bottling, to capture the brightness of its unaged profile.
