Brewdog Libertine Black Ale 330ml x 24
฿5,179
When James Watt and Martin Dickie founded BrewDog in Fraserburgh in 2007, their explicit mission was to dismantle the conventions of British ale — and the Libertine Black Ale applies that same combative logic to the dark ale format. Where traditional British black ales subordinate bitterness to malt sweetness, BrewDog layers its characteristic New World hop aggression over a roasted malt backbone, producing a style collision that sits uneasily in any single category. Brewed at the Ellon facility in Aberdeenshire — a 5.5-acre site opened in 2013 drawing on local Aberdeenshire water supply — the beer benefits from the brewery's continuous fermentation profile optimisation and post-fermentation dry-hopping at approximately 14°C for 5 days, a technique more associated with pale IPAs than dark ales. The malt bill delivers dark chocolate and espresso roast character, while the hop charge — drawn from BrewDog's arsenal of American and Southern Hemisphere varieties including Chinook, Simcoe, and Cascade — drives resinous, citrus-edged bitterness through the finish. The transgression here is structural: a black ale engineered with IPA-level hop intensity, refusing the sweetness that typically softens the style. Filtered and carbonated to commercial spec, vegan-certified, and consistent across production runs.
