Calvados Pere Magloire Fine V.S. (700 ml)
฿1,600
Père Magloire, founded in Pont-l'Évêque in the heart of Pays d'Auge, takes its name from a legendary Norman monk said to have championed the region's apple orchards — a story the house uses to anchor its commitment to traditional double distillation. Pays d'Auge, the only Calvados sub-appellation mandating double distillation in copper pot stills (alambic charentais), sits on clay-limestone soils that retain moisture through Norman maritime winters, producing apples with pronounced tartaric acidity and dense fruit concentration. The VS designation indicates a minimum two years of oak aging, during which the spirit develops its characteristic apple-skin and dried-fruit character while shedding raw spirit heat. Père Magloire Fine VS is unusual within the entry-level Calvados tier for explicitly carrying the Pays d'Auge appellation, meaning it meets the stricter double-distillation requirement that most VS-grade Calvados — produced under the broader regional AOC — is not obliged to follow. At this stage of maturity, the spirit retains vivid fresh-apple and light vanilla character rather than the dried-fruit and rancio depth of older expressions, making it the most transparent expression of Pays d'Auge's orchard character in the Père Magloire range.
