Montecristo Open Master (No Tube)
฿2,600
When Alonso Menéndez launched Montecristo in 1935 at Havana's Particulares Factory, he built a brand around consistency at scale — a discipline so rigorous that Montecristo today accounts for roughly one-quarter of all Habanos S.A. worldwide sales without sacrificing the handmade standard. The Open Master is the brand's deliberate move toward a shorter, more accessible format while retaining the full Totalmente a Mano construction: long-filler leaves folded via entubado or accordion technique, triple-capped by torcedores, and finished uncut.
All tobacco — filler, binder, and wrapper — originates exclusively from Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Río, Cuba's premier growing zone, where red clay (colorado) soils and a tropical microclimate tempered by ocean breezes yield leaves of pronounced mineral complexity and natural sweetness. Standard production tobacco undergoes natural fermentation in pilones and approximately one to two years of aging before rolling. The result sits squarely in Montecristo's medium-to-full-bodied house register: creamy cedar and cocoa up front, earth mid-palate, with the subtle sweetness that separates the marque from the peppery intensity of Bolívar or Partagás. The Open line's special feature is its format philosophy — shorter vitolas engineered for a complete smoke in under an hour, breaking the Cuban tradition that equates prestige exclusively with larger ring gauges and extended smoking times.
