Montecristo Puritos (5 Sticks per Box)
฿1,300
When Alonso Menéndez launched Montecristo in 1935 at Havana's Particulares Factory, the brand was built on a single conviction: that Vuelta Abajo leaf, handled with discipline, could deliver consistency at scale. The Puritos sit at the accessible edge of that legacy — machine-made cigarillo variants distinct from the handmade portfolio, yet drawing on the same tobacco origin.
Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Río, is Cuba's premier growing zone: red clay (colorado) soil moderated by Atlantic ocean breezes produces leaf of concentrated mineral complexity and natural sweetness that defines the Montecristo house profile — cedar, earth, and cocoa sitting between the peppery intensity of Bolívar and the lighter register of Hoyo de Monterrey.
Unlike the core handmade line — rolled Totalmente a Mano by torcedores using entubado or accordion-fold technique — the Puritos are machine-made, a deliberate format choice that trades the nuance of long-filler construction for accessibility and price efficiency. Filler, binder, and wrapper remain sourced from Vuelta Abajo, preserving the D.O.P. Cuban tobacco origin.
The defining transgression here: this is the only format in the Montecristo portfolio that openly steps outside the handmade Habano tradition, making the brand's signature flavor architecture available in a short, fast smoke. Five sticks per box; no aging designation applies.
