Domaine Trapet Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru
฿32,100
Jean-Louis Trapet's deliberate rejection of Gevrey's muscular archetype is nowhere more legible than in Chapelle-Chambertin: where neighbours pile extraction and new oak, Trapet adds zero sulphur from harvest through ageing, relying instead on whole-cluster inclusion and native-yeast fermentation to build structure without weight. The 0.55–0.60 ha parcel in lieu-dit En la Chapelle sits on warm, shallow fine clays over limestone — soils that ripen Pinot Noir quickly and fully, yet the low-lying limestone bedrock threads a cool mineral tension through the fruit. Vines planted in 1938 and 1965 deliver concentrated, small-berried fruit that can absorb Trapet's characteristically high whole-cluster rates without turning green. Vinification proceeds in open vats with 80–100% whole bunches (vintage-dependent), punch-downs at the start of fermentation giving way to gentle pump-overs only; the wine then ages 18–20 months in French oak barriques at 30–75% new, unfined and unfiltered, with a minimal sulphur dose added solely at bottling. The special feature: Trapet makes this Grand Cru deliberately accessible from release — an explicit philosophical break from the reductive, closed-down style fashionable among Côte de Nuits peers. The 2020 vintage delivered outstanding density and length across the domaine; Chapelle's shallow clay soils amplify the year's generous fruit while the limestone subsoil preserves the lift. Drink 2028–2048.
