Glenfiddich Grand Cortes 22 Years Old (700 ml)

William Grant built Glenfiddich's first still by hand in 1886, and the distillery has bottled every expression on-site in Dufftown ever since — one of the very few Scottish distilleries to control the full chain from grain to glass. The Grand Cortes 22 Year Old draws its character from the Conval Hills' Robbie Dhu Spring, a mineral-rich highland source whose catchment the Grant family protected by acquiring the surrounding land, and from the valley's own enclosed microclimate that moderates temperature swings across the dunnage warehouses below.

The spirit is shaped by Glenfiddich's distinctively small swan-neck copper pot stills — wash stills of approximately 9,000 L and spirit stills of approximately 4,500 L — whose geometry drives high copper contact and a characteristically light, orchard-fruit new make. After a minimum of 22 years in predominantly ex-bourbon American white oak, the whisky receives an ex-Oloroso sherry cask finish before the mandatory marrying step in large oak tuns, which integrates the two cask influences without either dominating.

What separates Grand Cortes from its age-statement peers is the deliberate restraint of the sherry influence: the Oloroso finish deepens dried-fruit and spice registers without erasing the house's signature pear-and-vanilla delicacy — a balance most distilleries at this age tier sacrifice entirely for sherry weight. As a non-vintage, age-statement release, character is consistent across batches, with the 22-year maturation delivering a textural density the younger core expressions cannot reach.
