Bruichladdich Octomore 13.1 Whisky (700 ml)
฿11,899
Octomore is the deliberate transgression at the heart of Bruichladdich's philosophy: the Harvey brothers built this distillery in 1881 on the western shore of Loch Indaal for gravity-fed, pump-free production, and over a century later the same stillhouse now produces both a fully unpeated flagship and the world's most heavily peated single malt — a contradiction no other Islay distillery attempts. The 13.1 edition is distilled from 2015-harvest Scottish barley peated to 137.3 ppm, malted off-island at Bairds Malt, Inverness, then returned to the Rhinns of Islay for production. The Atlantic-maritime climate at near sea level — Gulf Stream-moderated, rarely freezing, with high year-round humidity — slows maturation inside flat, brick-built dunnage warehouses, allowing the spirit to integrate rather than accelerate. Distillation passes through two unusually tall, narrow-necked spirit stills (6-metre column, 0.9m neck diameter), maximising copper reflux and producing a cleaner new make than the ppm figure alone would suggest. Reduction uses water drawn from the Octomore Farm spring, flowing through ancient Lewisian gneiss rock — a high-silica source unique to this corner of the island. Bottled at cask strength, without chill-filtration and without caramel colouring. The special feature: at 137.3 ppm, this expression carries more phenolic load than any other commercially released single malt category, yet the distillery's inherent coastal acidity and barley sweetness remain structurally present beneath the smoke.
