Johnnie Walker Black Label Islay Origin (1 L)
฿1,899
When John Walker began blending in his Kilmarnock grocery in 1820, his guiding logic was borrowed from the tea trade: source across regions, blend out variation, deliver consistency at scale. The Black Label Islay Origin applies that same architecture with a deliberate westward tilt — Caol Ila's clean maritime peat smoke is elevated to the structural foreground, rather than serving its usual supporting role behind Cardhu's honeyed Speyside sweetness.
Caol Ila sits on the northeastern shore of Islay, drawing process water from Loch nam Ban and distilling in tall, lantern-shaped copper pot stills that produce a lighter, more coastal style of peat than Islay's southern distilleries. That maritime character — iodine-edged, brine-salted, smoke without heaviness — defines the orientation of this expression. Clynelish (Highland, waxy and coastal) and Cardhu (Speyside, fruit-forward) remain in the blend as structural counterweights.
Approximately 40 malt and grain whiskies, each aged a minimum of 12 years in predominantly ex-bourbon American oak and ex-Sherry European oak casks, are married under the direction of master blender Dr. Emma Walker — the first woman to hold that role in the brand's 200-year history. The blend is chill-filtered and bottled at 40% ABV; no cask-strength or unfiltered variant exists in the standard range.
What distinguishes this 1-litre Islay Origin from standard Black Label is the explicit regional weighting: Caol Ila's smoke is the lead voice, not a background note — a deliberate inversion of the classic Black Label hierarchy.
