De Kuyper
De Kuyper Amaretto (700 ml)
฿695
De Kuyper, founded in 1695 in Schiedam — the Dutch city whose soft, low-mineral water made it the distilling capital of Northern Europe — has produced fruit liqueurs and cordials continuously for over three centuries, making it one of the oldest operating distilleries in the world. Amaretto as a category traces its character to bitter almond and apricot kernel extracts, and De Kuyper's interpretation follows that tradition faithfully, drawing on the house's long expertise in botanical maceration and neutral spirit blending.
This expression is produced in the Netherlands using maceration of bitter almond and apricot kernel botanicals in a neutral grain spirit base, then sweetened and bottled at 28% ABV — lower than many Italian amaretti, which softens the alcohol heat and pushes the confectionery character forward. The result is a dense, syrupy texture with pronounced marzipan and roasted nut aromatics underpinned by a faint stone-fruit bitterness that prevents the sweetness from becoming flat.
What distinguishes this bottling within the De Kuyper range is its positioning as a bartender-grade workhorse: consistent batch-to-batch, widely used in professional bar programs across Southeast Asia, and priced to allow generous pours without compromise on aromatic intensity.
