Montecristo Edmundo (25 Sticks per Box)

When Alonso Menéndez launched Montecristo in 1935 at Havana's Particulares Factory, he built a brand around a single proposition: maximum consistency at medium-to-full body — a deliberate counterpoint to the peppery aggression of Bolívar and Partagás. That house philosophy survives intact in the Edmundo, a robusto extra vitola (52 ring gauge, 135mm) that sits at the fuller end of the core portfolio.

All tobacco — filler, binder, and wrapper — originates exclusively from Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Río, Cuba's premier growing zone, where red clay (colorado) soils and a tropical microclimate moderated by Atlantic breezes concentrate mineral complexity and aromatic richness in the leaf. No other Cuban province contributes to this 100% puro blend.

Construction is Totalmente a Mano by trained torcedores using the traditional entubado or accordion-fold long-filler technique, which creates individual leaf channels that promote even airflow and combustion. Leaves undergo natural fermentation in pilones before blending; standard production tobacco is aged approximately 1–2 years pre-rolling. The cigar is hand-finished with a triple cap and presented uncut.

The Edmundo's wider ring gauge distinguishes it from the slender No. 1 and No. 2 formats, slowing combustion and amplifying the cedar-cocoa core that defines the Montecristo house style — a format transgression within a brand historically associated with thinner, longer vitolas.

As a non-vintage production cigar, the Edmundo rewards 2–5 years of cellaring at 65–70% RH, during which the colorado wrapper deepens and the characteristic subtle sweetness integrates further.
