Dão
The Dão is one of Portugal's established wine regions and is probably the native home of touriga nacional.
That grape is today widely known as the leading powerhouse variety in many of the blends that make Port, and is also used in the dry wines of the Douro; its attributes include richness, depth, a commanding tannic structure, good deep colouring and good aromas.
Portugal itself is the mother of Port, the fortified wine of the Douro valley, and maintains a large body of indigenous grape varieties alongside it.
